Under the patronage of the respected Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khidm, the Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry at the College of Science for Women / University of Baghdad, organized a scientific workshop entitled “Green Chemistry and Its Applications.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Hamdiya Hatem Jawad, Ms. Marwa Raad Hashem, and Ms. Sahar Thamer.
The workshop addressed the concept of green chemistry as one of the modern trends in chemical sciences, aimed at reducing the negative environmental impacts of chemical substances and reactions. This is achieved through the adoption of environmentally friendly principles that contribute to minimizing pollution and conserving natural resources.
It also highlighted the major practical applications of green chemistry in the fields of industry, medicine, and agriculture, with a focus on techniques used to reduce chemical waste and improve the efficiency of energy and raw material utilization.
Furthermore, the workshop presented several applied examples illustrating how green chemistry principles can be implemented in daily life and scientific research. It also discussed the challenges associated with applying these concepts and the possible approaches to overcoming them in order to achieve sustainable development.
The workshop concluded by emphasizing the importance of developing students’ and researchers’ skills in the field of green chemistry and its applications, as well as its role in supporting scientific research and enhancing the quality of academic studies.
