Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim , the Scientific Affairs Division, in cooperation with the Department of Mathematics, organized a workshop entitled “Addiction (Drugs, Alcohol, Internet).” The workshop was presented by Assistant Dr. Nadia Mohammed Jawad, Dr. Farah Jawad Kazim, and Dr. Ali Musaddiq. The workshop aimed to shed light on the phenomenon of addiction in its various forms and its negative effects on both individuals and society.
The workshop addressed multiple themes, including the definition of different types of addiction and their psychological and social causes, in addition to clarifying the resulting health and behavioral consequences. It also discussed internet addiction as one of the contemporary challenges facing youth, highlighting prevention strategies, treatment methods, and the role of community awareness in limiting the spread of this phenomenon. Furthermore, real-life examples were presented to enhance participants’ understanding of how to deal with this issue.
The workshop concluded by emphasizing the importance of raising awareness among students and researchers about the dangers of addiction, the necessity of adopting healthy behaviors that contribute to building a conscious and cohesive society, and its role in supporting a safe university environment and promoting mental health.
