Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Samira8 Naji Khdim , the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Chemistry department, organized a scientific workshop entitled “The Importance of Green Chemistry in Our Lives.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Areej Kamal Asim, Ms. Israa Hamoud Ibrahim, and Ms. Zahraa Abdul Mahdi Jaber, and was attended by a number of faculty members and students.
The workshop addressed the concept of green chemistry as one of the modern trends in chemical sciences that aims to reduce the harmful environmental impacts of chemical substances and processes through the design of safer and more environmentally friendly products and processes. It also discussed the fundamental principles of green chemistry and its role in minimizing chemical waste and reducing the use of toxic materials, in addition to clarifying its applications in industrial, environmental, and medical fields.
Furthermore, the workshop highlighted the importance of adopting sustainable technologies in laboratories and chemical industries, as well as the role of researchers and students in promoting a culture of responsible use of chemicals, thereby contributing to environmental protection and the achievement of sustainable development. The workshop concluded by emphasizing the importance of developing students’ and researchers’ skills in the field of green chemistry and its role in supporting scientific research and enhancing safe and environmentally friendly scientific practices.
