Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Prof. Dr. Samira Naji Kazem, the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Student Activities Division, organized a training course entitled “Your Doctor in Your Hands”, delivered by Professor Dr. Najat Baqer Mashkoor and Assistant Lecturer Al-Hussein Munshid, at Al-Hakim Hall, in the presence of a number of faculty members and staff.

The course included an explanation of the main themes, focusing on understanding the basics of self-care and health prevention, and helping individuals and families make informed health decisions that contribute to living a healthy life. It also addressed recognizing warning signs of common diseases, applying basic first aid skills, and enhancing effective communication with physicians in order to achieve an appropriate level of health awareness.

The course also covered the fundamentals of preventive health by introducing healthy lifestyle habits that form an important basis for maintaining good health. These included consuming vegetables and fruits in daily meals, incorporating proteins, reducing carbohydrates, and drinking sufficient amounts of water throughout the day. Emphasis was placed on the importance of adequate sleep and engaging in physical activity, as walking for half an hour daily is considered an effective means of strengthening the body and improving respiratory health.

The lecturers also addressed the importance of periodic medical examinations according to age, given their major role in prevention and early detection of diseases such as blood sugar and blood pressure tests. In addition, they highlighted mental health and its impact on an individual’s life, emphasizing that practicing physical exercise is one of the essential necessities for maintaining psychological balance.
