About the Physics Department

Since its establishment, the Department of Physics has a distinguished scientific reputation within Iraqi universities, and in general, the department devotes the possibilities to maintaining the highest scientific level, as the department provides a broad study and research program within the specialization of physics and medical physics in order to provide scientific opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate students. Every year, many original scientific and applied research is carried out in various fields of physics. At the level of preliminary studies, the department provides the opportunity to obtain a bachelor’s degree in physics by giving scientific and theoretical lessons as well as scientific research in almost all branches of physics, as the subjects taught during the four academic years qualify graduates to work as physicists wherever they are needed in the fields of work. The courses given include basic topics in physics such as mechanics, electrical, analytical mechanics, quantum mechanics, atomic, thermal and statistical physics, materials science, analogue and digital electrons, physical and engineering optics, laser and its applications, nuclear physics, solid state physics and other optional topics for the third and fourth stages that are closely and directly related to pure physics.

 Our Mission

Preparing graduates with a solid scientific level, extensive scientific experiences and personal abilities that qualify them to keep pace with scientific and technological development and engage in various fields of work.

Our Vision

The Department of Physics at the College of Science for Women seeks to achieve excellence in the field of teaching physics and medical physics through the application of quality standards in an atmosphere characterized by independence and stimulating ambition and creativity, which contributes to the preparation of graduates who produce knowledge and have a positive role in the process of development and comprehensive construction and lead change.

Department Objectives

Organizing extra-curricular activities that contribute to the development and development of the student’s personality, promoting virtuous moral principles, developing a sense of responsibility, and contributing to community service.
