Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Sciences for Women , Professor Dr. Sameera Naji khdim, the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Chemistry Sciences, organized a workshop entitled (Chemistry of Fasting) presented by Prof. Dr. Laila Othman Farhan, Assistant Professor Dr. Nour Al-Huda Ghazi Muhammad, Assistant Professor Samara Ali Matar.
The workshop aimed to explore the chemical and physiological effects that occur in the human body during the fasting period and the biochemical processes that occur when abstaining from eating and drinking, and the effect of fasting on chemical reactions within the body. It also highlighted the changes that occur in metabolic processes during fasting, and its effect on the balance of acids and bases in the body.
The workshop also addressed the study of how fasting affects the analysis of nutrients and the way it affects their digestion and absorption, as well as the potential benefits of fasting that can be achieved through a deep understanding of biochemical processes in a healthy way. The effect of fasting on chronic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure was also addressed, as well as its effect on enhancing the immune system and improving the functions of various body systems
