A Workshop Organized by the Rehabilitation and Employment Unit
Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Rehabilitation and Employment Unit organized a workshop entitled “Using Rubrics with Students in Assignments and Tasks Execution”, presented by Dr. Zainab Anwar Ahmed and Ms. Samaah Mohammed Ali.
The workshop aimed to enhance accuracy and fairness in the assessment of academic work and to improve students’ performance in completing assignments and tasks.
The session included a detailed explanation of the Rubric program as a modern electronic assessment tool that contributes to the precise and organized evaluation of students’ assignments and reports. It is considered one of the advanced systems that rely on pre-defined evaluation criteria, thus improving the assessment process by reducing dependence on human judgment and limiting subjective bias.
The workshop focused on how to integrate the rubric program within the “Google Classroom” environment as a supportive tool for faculty members to facilitate academic evaluation. It also highlighted the system’s high flexibility in creating customized grading tables based on specific performance standards, offering immediate feedback.
Additionally, the workshop addressed the mechanism for defining evaluation criteria, such as student engagement, teamwork, academic quality, as well as practical and cognitive skills.
One of the most significant features of the program is that it enables instructors to evaluate assignments and reports quickly and accurately. Reports can be uploaded directly to the system, where they are analyzed and assessed based on the predetermined criteria.
The workshop emphasized the importance of employing this modern technology to enhance the educational experience—both in remote learning and in classrooms with large student populations. The Rubric system was presented as an innovative solution that helps reduce effort and save time while ensuring fairness and transparency in evaluation.
In conclusion, the workshop affirmed that incorporating the Rubric program into modern learning environments significantly contributes to the development of the educational process by providing accurate and objective assessments that reflect students’ academic efforts and meet the needs of both learners and educators.
