Under the patronage of Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, Dean of the College of Science for Women, the Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry, organized a workshop titled “Renewable Energy and Its Natural Sources.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Sahar Sabih Hassan, Assoc. Prof. Suad Abdul Musa, and Assist. Prof. Sura Khalil Ibrahim.
The workshop aimed to highlight the importance of renewable energy for the future and to broaden the perspectives of students and researchers in this vital field. The workshop covered several key topics related to renewable energy sources, such as solar energy, wind energy, hydropower, and biomass energy, as well as their uses in providing sustainable energy solutions globally.
The current global situation in the field of energy was also discussed; emphasizing that complete reliance on traditional sources like fossil fuels causes numerous environmental and economic problems. This situation calls for serious research into the use of renewable energy sources that contribute to reducing pollution and achieving environmental sustainability.
The workshop highlighted the advantages of solar energy as one of the most widely used energy sources in the world, noting its ability to provide electricity sustainably and efficiently. Wind energy, which depends on the movement of wind to generate electricity, was also discussed, along with the environmental and economic benefits of using these types of energy.
The challenges and obstacles to using renewable energy were examined, such as the high initial investment costs and the need for infrastructure development to expand its use.
The workshop also featured demonstrations of renewable energy applications to showcase how they can be implemented in daily life to improve quality of life and protect the environment. A discussion was opened about the best ways to develop renewable energy to achieve energy security at the national and global levels. The importance of collaboration between the academic and industrial sectors was emphasized to support research and innovations that could help enhance the use of renewable energy.
At the end of the workshop, attendees expressed their appreciation for the importance of such workshops and seminars in raising awareness about environmental challenges and the opportunities offered by renewable energy as sustainable solutions for a bright and secure future.
