Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, Dean of the College of Science for Women, the Department of Chemistry, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit, organized a workshop titled “Child Health and Electronic Devices.” The workshop was presented by Prof. Dr. Abbas Ali Saleh, Dr. Fadel Ibrahim, and Mr. Amer Hamid Hussein.
The workshop aimed to raise awareness among parents about the risks associated with the excessive use of electronic devices and their negative effects on children from both health and psychological perspectives. It highlighted the potential impacts of overusing smart devices such as mobile phones, tablets, and video games. The harmful effects of these devices on children’s physical, mental, and behavioral development were emphasized. Furthermore, the workshop discussed health issues related to excessive use of electronic devices, such as neck and back pain, vision impairment, and the increased risk of obesity due to a lack of physical activity.
The psychological effects of excessive device use on children, such as anxiety, depression, and social isolation, were also addressed. Emphasis was placed on the importance of setting appropriate time limits for the use of these devices and creating a balance between daily tasks, digital entertainment, and other activities like reading, sports, and social interaction. The lecturers provided practical advice and suggestions, such as continuously monitoring children and guiding them to use beneficial applications that enhance their learning and skill development, rather than relying solely on games or entertainment programs. They also stressed the need for continuous interaction between parents and children to ensure the safe and healthy use of electronic devices, ultimately supporting the overall development of the child both physically and psychologically.
