Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, Dean of the College of Science for Women, the Unit of Scientific Affairs, in collaboration with the Journal Unit, organized a workshop titled “The Workflow Mechanism of Scientific Journals Using OJS”, presented by Professor Dr. Fikrat Majid Hassan, Editor-in-Chief of the Baghdad Science Journal. The event was attended by the Assistant Prof. Dr. Yousra Abdul-Sahib, Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs, along with several department heads, faculty members, and staff of the college.
The workshop aimed to introduce the workflow mechanism of the Open Journal Systems (OJS), one of the most prominent systems that contribute to facilitating the management of academic and scientific journals. This system provides an integrated environment for submitting, organizing, and managing academic publishing processes, from submission to final publication. The system aims to enhance workflow efficiency through task automation and offers an easy-to-use interface for editors, reviewers, and publishers.
In this context, the Journal Unit provided a detailed explanation on using the system for journals registered in Digital Commons. Participants learned how to effectively use this system in managing scientific journals. The workshop covered all aspects of using the system, such as how to create a journal and customize its settings according to its needs, as well as how to receive articles from authors and manage them via a user-friendly interface, which enables an efficient review process through direct communication with reviewers. Furthermore, the workshop discussed how to handle the various steps in the peer review and publication process, ensuring the improvement of publication quality and adherence to academic standards.
Additionally, the workshop provided practical guidelines on enhancing the publishing process and facilitating access to articles by publishing them digitally in an open-access database. This approach increases the availability of research and articles on a larger scale, encouraging open access to academic knowledge.
