Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women , Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Scientific Affairs Division, in cooperation with the Department of Biology Sciences, organized a workshop entitled (Genetics and Forensic Medicine: Reality and Future Prospects) presented by Dr. Nadia Fadhel Salman from the Forensic Medicine Department at the Iraqi Ministry of Health, Prof. Dr. Asmaa Muhammad Salih, Prof. Dr. Lama Hassan Alwan.
The workshop aimed to highlight the importance of genetics in providing accurate and reliable evidence in solving criminal cases, through DNA analysis of suspects and victims, and to address technological innovations in this field such as advanced genetic sequencing techniques and genetic data analysis tools. The necessity of developing the infrastructure of forensic medical laboratories and training specialized personnel was emphasized to ensure full benefit from these advanced technologies in criminal investigations, as well as the importance of keeping pace with modern scientific developments to meet the needs of society in the fields of criminal justice and discussing the challenges facing specialists in this field and future opportunities that may contribute to improving the methods adopted in criminal investigations. This workshop achieves one of the sustainable development goals represented by the sixteenth goal: peace, justice, and strong institutions subject to accountability and the law.
