Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Sciences for Women , Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Physics Sciences, organized a course entitled (Uses of X-rays in the medical field between benefits and risks) presented by Assistant Professor Hiba Musaddiq Salem, Assistant Professor Noha Hassan Harb, Assistant Professor Salma Ali Reda.
The course aimed to highlight the multiple uses of X-rays in the medical field, whether in diagnosis or treatment, with a focus on the great benefits that this technology offers in accelerating the diagnosis of diseases and monitoring the development of health conditions. Topics related to the risks that may result from excessive exposure to X-rays were also addressed, in terms of their potential negative effects on human cells and tissues, including the potential risks of developing cancerous tumors or negative effects on sensitive tissues, in addition to providing a comprehensive explanation of how to use radiation safely and effectively in the medical field, and discussing the preventive measures that must be taken to reduce potential risks. Illustrative examples were also provided on how to apply this technology in various medical specialties such as diagnostic radiology and surgery, and the importance of balancing the potential medical benefit and preventing health risks. This workshop achieves the goals of sustainable development represented by the third goal, which calls for good health and promoting well-being for all.
