Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Women’s Affairs Unit, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit, organized an awareness workshop titled “Psychological and Social Support for Breast Cancer Patients.” The workshop was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Shaima’a Saleh Mahdi and Assistant Professor Dr. Asmaa Jawad Kazem.

The aim of the workshop was to highlight the importance of psychological and social support in improving the quality of life for breast cancer patients and helping them cope with the psychological challenges they may face during treatment.

The workshop covered topics such as the impact of a breast cancer diagnosis on mental health and how to cope with the anxiety and depression associated with the disease. It also emphasized the importance of having a strong social support network that includes family and friends, and the role this network plays in uplifting the patients’ spirits and enhancing their ability to face the disease.

Strategies and techniques for coping with stress and psychological pressures were presented, such as relaxation techniques and psychotherapy. The importance of participating in support groups that include other patients to share experiences and exchange advice was also discussed. The workshop concluded by emphasizing the necessity of integrating psychological and social support with medical treatment to help patients overcome psychological and social challenges and achieve better outcomes in treatment and recovery.

It was also stressed that psychological and social support is one of the key factors in improving a patient’s ability to endure treatment, and is an integral part of comprehensive healthcare for breast cancer patients.
