Under the sponsorship of Professor Dr. Samira Naji Kazem, Dean of the College of Science for Women, and in the presence of Assistant Professor Dr. Adel Hussein Talib, the College’s Vice Dean for Administrative and Financial Affairs, the Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Rehabilitation and Employment Unit and in coordination with the Ministry of Health, organized a workshop titled “Climate Change and Its Impact on Daily Life”. The workshop was presented by Engineer Tariq Riyad from the Ministry of Health and Assistant Lecturer Zaid Ziyad from the Rehabilitation and Employment Unit. It was held in the Abdul Hakim Hall at the college, with the attendance of several faculty members and staff on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.

The aim of the workshop was to raise awareness about climate change and to explain how to use eco-friendly alternative energy sources to reduce gas emissions and recycle waste.

The lecturers explained that climate change is one of the most dangerous phenomena facing planet Earth, as it is directly related to the fate of the planet’s inhabitants, in addition to various other aspects of life. This requires collective efforts to address this phenomenon in order to preserve life on Earth. Climate change refers to significant and long-term shifts in Earth’s weather patterns, including changes in temperature, rainfall, and the severity of natural disasters like floods, droughts, and storms. It can affect the environment and ecosystems, causing noticeable changes in natural systems such as oceans and forests. Some of the causes of climate change include human activities such as the use of fossil fuels, deforestation, and gas emissions from industrialization. The phenomenon of global warming was also explained as the gradual increase in Earth’s atmospheric temperature due to the accumulation of greenhouse gases resulting from human activities.

The workshop included discussions and several observations aimed at increasing awareness, such as the importance of shared responsibility for preserving the environment and climate, and the need to shift towards using alternative energy sources like solar and wind power to reduce emissions and, consequently, mitigate this dangerous phenomenon.
