Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, Dean of the College of Science for Women, the Department of Physics, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit at our college, organized a training course titled “Uses of Laser Devices in the Medical Field.” The course was presented by Dr. Noha Hassan Harb and Dr. Salma Ali Reda in the Optics Laboratory.

The course began with an explanation and discussion of the most important laser devices currently used in medical treatment, which have proven effective in treating various health issues such as eye diseases, joint problems, tumors, and skin conditions.

In the field of eye diseases, the uses of laser to treat nearsightedness, farsightedness, and retinal diseases such as diabetic retinopathy was explained.

In surgery, laser are used to cut tissues with high precision, particularly in skin, nerve, and blood vessel surgeries. The uses of laser to treat pain and inflammation through physical therapy, by stimulating tissues to accelerate the healing process, was also discussed.

Laser are also used in cancer treatment; in some cases, they are used to remove or shrink tumors. In dentistry, laser are employed to remove diseased tissue or to perform certain teeth whitening procedures.

Laser treatment has also become common in dermatology, where it is used for cosmetic skin treatments, such as removing acne scars, wrinkles, as well as treating melasma and dark spots.

The course included interactions and questions from the participants, which were clarified by the instructors. This training course will continue for three days to ensure the benefit of the participants.
