The College of Science for women at the University of Baghdad discussed the master’s thesis entitled ” The Association between Leptin and Asprosin Levels in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus “
By the student: Duha Qahtan Bakr
The thesis aims to determine the potential relationship between leptin and asprosin hormones in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and whether this relationship is similar in males and females.
This study, which was conducted at the University of Baghdad / College of Science for Women / Department of Chemistry, at AL-Mahmoudia General Hospital and Technical Laboratory in Baghdad / Iraq between November 2023 to March 2024. The levels of fasting blood glucose (FBG), liver enzymes, and lipid profile were measured using the spectrophotometer technique, and the levels of Leptin and Asprosin were measured using the technique of enzyme-linked immune sorbent assay (ELISA) technique.
The most important recommendations reached by the thesis are:
1. Leptin and asprosin are adipokines with pleiotropic physiological effects and are crucial in regulating metabolic homeostasis. Therefore, more clinical research is needed to explore whether these hormones constitute a potential therapeutic target for patients with type 2 diabetes.
2. Studying the association between leptin and asprosin levels in type 2 diabetic mellitus with the long duration of the disease.
3. Future studies, to study the association between leptin and asprosin levels in type 1 diabetic mellitus.
4. Studying the association between leptin or asprosin and other vitamins such as vitamin C and E as antioxidants, together with antioxidant enzymes such as glutathione peroxidase and glutathione reductase in the case of diabetic mellitus.
