Under the patronage of Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, Dean of the College of Science for Women, the Guidance Unit of the Chemistry Department organized an awareness seminar titled “The Dangers of Addiction,” as part of the activities for Drug Abuse Prevention Week and Global Entrepreneurship Week. The seminar was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Asmaa Mehdi Saleh, with the attendance of graduate students from the department.
The seminar aimed to raise awareness among the students about the concept of addiction and its types, while explaining its negative impacts on individuals and society. The lecture also addressed the health and social consequences of addiction, such as health deterioration and the breakdown of social relationships.
The seminar highlighted the psychological, social, and environmental factors that contribute to the spread of addiction, stressing the importance of understanding these causes to reduce the phenomenon.
At the end of the seminar, a set of guidelines was provided for dealing with addicts, with an emphasis on the importance of psychological and social support and the need for comprehensive treatment programs that contribute to the recovery and rehabilitation of addicts
