Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, Dean of the College of Science for Women, the Department of Physics at the College of Science for Women held a ceremony and an introductory seminar for first-year students. The event was attended by the Dean of the College, the Vice Deans, Dr. Haider Yahya, Head of the Department, and Mrs. Nyan Fareed, the Department Secretary, as well as faculty members, staff, and students of the department. The event took place in the conference hall on Tuesday, December 3rd.
The ceremony began with the recitation of verses from the Qur’an, followed by the reading of Al-Fatiha for the souls of the martyrs. The national anthem was then played. Dr. Haider Yahya, the Head of the Department, gave a welcoming speech in which he expressed his greetings to the first-year students. He emphasized that the department’s doors are always open to them and highlighted the ongoing efforts to improve academic and educational standards. He also discussed the significance of physics as a fundamental science with applications in many fields, including health, industry, and the environment, noting that physics is a core science that supports other scientific disciplines. Dr. Yahya encouraged the students to commit to their studies and to understand the course material in order to excel and achieve top ranks.
Dr. Ramez Ahmed, one of the department’s faculty members, then gave a speech emphasizing the importance of motivating students to aim for higher education and succeed in both academic and professional life. He also explained the ministry and university regulations regarding student attendance and the rules for absences.
The event featured a video introducing the department, covering its history, faculty members, specializations, and its importance in both academic and practical fields. Dr. Safa Sami, Head of the Rehabilitation and Employment Unit, then spoke to the students, welcoming them and explaining the unit’s mission. She outlined how the unit supports students by offering training courses and workshops to enhance their practical knowledge and prepare them for the job market after graduation. She also discussed the unit’s efforts to provide job opportunities for graduates in both the public and private sectors.
The ceremony concluded with a general knowledge and science quiz related to physics, where symbolic prizes were awarded to the winning students. The atmosphere was positive and comfortable for the students, and the event was well-received by all attendees
