As part of efforts to enhance cooperation between academic institutions and government entities, several staff members from the University of Baghdad participated in the national population census being conducted in Iraq. They view the census process as a national responsibility that requires collective efforts from all segments of society.

The President of the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Bahaa Ibrahim Insaf, emphasized that this initiative stems from the university’s belief in the crucial role academic institutions play in serving and developing society. He highlighted the importance of successfully conducting the census, as it serves as a key tool for achieving sustainable development.

Dr. Amir Faisal Abdul Amir, the University’s Assistant President for Administrative Affairs, confirmed that the participation was based on recommendations from the University Council to adjust the administrative roles of staff in a way that supports their involvement in the census process. Additionally, joint teams were formed between the University of Baghdad and the Ministry of Planning to provide necessary support to the concerned authorities.

Participants from the University of Baghdad involved in the census process mentioned that they received adequate training to assist in field data collection using modern technologies. They were also given advice on how to communicate with citizens to ensure the accuracy of the information gathered.

It is worth noting that the Center for Population and Demographic Studies at the University of Baghdad is working to form a joint team with the National Center for Population and Demographic Studies, the Statistics and Geographic Information Systems Authority at the Ministry of Planning. This team aims to study and analyze the data produced from the population census through scientific studies and research, which will help address issues and develop solutions. The Ministry of Planning has also approached the National Center for Population and Demographic Studies at the University of Baghdad to prepare joint studies following the results of the general population and housing census.
