Dissertation in College of Science for Women discusses Isolation and Identification of some steroids and flavonoids and their chitosan-nano composites of Euphorbia milii plant and evaluation cytotoxic effects of some cancer cell lines.

First Part: College of Science for Women / University of Baghdad examined the dissertation entitled (Isolation and Identification of some steroids and flavonoids and their chitosan-nano composites of Euphorbia milii plant and evaluation cytotoxic effects of some cancer cell lines)

of the student Zainab Omran Salman

Second Part: The dissertation aims to  :

1-Using spectroscopic and chromatographic techniques, for the isolation and identification of

steroids and flavonoids from the Euphorbia milii plant.

2- Loaded on chitosan nanoparticles, an extract containing flavonoids and steroids.

3- Use a different method to characterize the nanoparticles, such as FT-IR, XRD, UV-VIS

spectrum, SEM, TEM, and zeta potential analyzer.

4- Using the MTT assay and a cell death detection strategy, researchers are examining the

cytotoxic effects of steroids, nano-steroids, flavonoids, and nano-flavonoids on human cell

lines (MCF-7) (PC3).

Third Part: The dissertation also include study was to use chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques to isolate and characterize flavonoids and phytosteroids from the Christ thistle plant grown in Iraq. The isolated compounds were then loaded onto nano chitosan and their anti-cancer effects were examined on two cancer cell lines, one for prostate cancer (PC3) and the other for breast cancer (MCF-7), as a potential replacement for conventional treatments..

Fourth Part: The most important recommendations which the study has come up with:

  1. This plant could be used as a rich source of phytosterols and flavonoids.
  2. Further investigation is required to identify additional constituents inside this plant and Assessment of the pharmacological potential of this components.
  3. Concentrations of active chemicals can be raised by using plant tissue  culture techniques.
  4. Additional research is needed to understand how flavonoids, nano flavonoids, steroids, and nano steroids affect gene expression and the course of the cell cycle.
  5. More research is required to find out how these substances can cause apoptosis.
  6. Studying the possibility of directing these nano-components towards affected tissues rather than healthy tissues.
  7. Studying the effect of flavonoids, nano flavonoids, steroids, and nano steroids on other types of cancers, such as lung, colon, bone, and other cancer.
