The College of Science for Women at the University of Baghdad discussed a master’s thesis entitled:”A Comparative Study of the Phytochemical Content of Two Equisetum spp. and Their Biological Activities”,<\/strong>submitted by Aya Mahmood Jasem <\/strong>as part of the requirements for obtaining a Master’s degree in Life Sciences \/ Botany, under the supervision of \u00a0Prof. Dr. Abbas Murtadha Ismail.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

\u00a0<\/strong>The study demonstrated the ability of phenolic and flavonoid compounds to scavenge free radicals, compared to the control compound (Ascorbic acid), with antioxidant activity increasing in a concentration-dependent manner. Additionally, the compounds exhibited effectiveness in inhibiting the growth of both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as a suppressive effect on the growth of certain Candida<\/em> yeast species<\/p>\n

Master's thesis recommendations<\/div><\/span>
[vc_column_text css=””]The study recommended evaluating the cytotoxicity of the isolated phenolic and flavonoid compounds from both Equisetum species on cancer cell lines using various techniques. It also encouraged the use of more advanced methods for purification and characterization. Furthermore, the study called for expanding the research to include other Equisetum species and investigating their effects against a broader range of bacterial strains and fungal species, including dermatophytes.<\/strong>[\/vc_column_text]<\/div><\/div>
