Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Department of Biology, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit, organized a scientific workshop entitled\u00a0\u201cSperm Preparation in IVF Program.\u201d\u00a0The workshop was presented by Dr. Aven Ramadan Mohsen, Dr. Zainab Kareem and Dr. Hana Kamal. It was held in the Department of Biology’s seminar hall and attended by several faculty members, staff, and students.
\nThe primary aim of the workshop was to highlight the most important methods for preparing sperm for use in\u00a0in vitro fertilization (IVF)\u00a0protocols in fertility laboratories and clinics. It also shed light on the latest global research developments regarding techniques for obtaining sperm from patients suffering from oligozoospermia (low sperm count) or azoospermia (absence of sperm in semen).
\nThe workshop reviewed the most significant and recent\u00a0surgical interventions\u00a0for sperm retrieval. It further discussed key sperm preparation techniques commonly used in fertility laboratories, including:
\nCentrifugation technique
\nSwim-up technique
\nMigration and sedimentation technique
\nLayering under paraffin (sedimentation) technique
\nGlass wool filtration
\nThe session included an open discussion segment, allowing participants to ask questions and contribute insightful comments that enriched the scientific dialogue.
\nIn conclusion, the workshop emphasized the importance of\u00a0supporting and encouraging specialized research in the field of infertility treatment\u00a0and stressed the need to enhance\u00a0coordination and collaboration among scientific departments, research centers, and specialized institutes\u00a0working in this area.<\/p>\n
