{"id":13156,"date":"2026-05-05T10:30:16","date_gmt":"2026-05-05T07:30:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.csw.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=13156"},"modified":"2026-06-29T10:52:42","modified_gmt":"2026-06-29T07:52:42","slug":"common-linguistic-errors-in-english-academic-writing-and-methods-for-their-correction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.csw.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=13156","title":{"rendered":"Common Linguistic Errors in English Academic Writing and Methods for Their Correction"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Department of Chemistry Organizes a Workshop on Common Writing Errors <\/strong>Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, <strong>Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim<\/strong>, the Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry at the College of Science for Women \/ University of Baghdad, organized a scientific workshop entitled <strong>&#8220;Common Errors in English Writing.&#8221;<\/strong> The workshop was presented by <strong>Dr. Basuad Maher Muhail<\/strong> and<strong>\u00a0Dr. Asmaa Mahdi Saleh<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The workshop addressed a range of key topics focusing on the most common errors made by students in English academic writing, whether in scientific research papers, academic reports, or theses. It highlighted the distinction between correct and incorrect linguistic structures and identified recurring grammatical and spelling errors that negatively affect the clarity and accuracy of academic texts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The workshop also emphasized the importance of selecting appropriate vocabulary within scientific contexts and avoiding literal translation, which often leads to weak sentence construction or distortion of intended meaning. In addition, it included practical demonstrations and applied examples illustrating how to correct errors and improve writing style.
