Under the patronage of the respected Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Chemistry at the University of Baghdad, organized a scientific workshop entitled \u201cSafe Use of Disinfectants and Detergents and Their Impact on the Environment and Human Health.\u201d
The workshop was presented by Dr. Ahmed Younis Abd and Professor Dr. Nasser Dhyaa Shalaan.<\/p>\n

The workshop addressed the scientific principles for selecting appropriate disinfectants and sanitizers, emphasizing that the selection process depends on ease and speed of use, effectiveness against bacteria and viruses, concentration, and speed of action. It also focused on the importance of the safety factor to avoid toxic, skin-irritating, flammable substances, or those that may cause surface damage.<\/p>\n

The workshop included a review of common types of disinfectants and detergents, such as chlorine compounds and alcohol-based products, stressing the necessity of adhering to usage instructions to prevent health or material damage. It also discussed the limited effectiveness of spray disinfection in public places, emphasizing the importance of disinfecting frequently touched surfaces, as infection transmission is often direct between individuals.<\/p>\n

The workshop highlighted the risks of excessive or improper use of disinfectants, warning against mixing chemicals, inhaling them, or using them for purposes other than those intended, with strong emphasis on following official guidelines.<\/p>\n
