The Scientific Affairs Unit, under the patronage of the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, organized a workshop dedicated to combating drug abuse. The Scientific Affairs Unit hosted the workshop titled “Towards a Drug-Free Society: The Role of Institutions and Families,” which was presented by Prof. Dr. Sulaf Abdul Khudair, Dr. Shaima Salih Mahdi, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Sahar Abdul Khudair.
\nThe workshop focused on several critical themes regarding the danger of drug use and its direct impacts on both mental and physical health, in addition to the social challenges this phenomenon poses to the family and society.
\nThe session addressed the types of narcotic substances currently prevalent and the innovative marketing methods targeting the youth demographic.
\nIt highlighted the long-term effects on the nervous system and general behaviors, emphasizing the pivotal role of the family in the early detection of behavioral changes in children.
\nThe participants also discussed the importance of enhancing awareness within educational institutions, intensifying educational lectures and workshops, and the necessity of creating a supportive university environment for students by providing psychological counseling and guidance programs that contribute to raising their level of cognitive and behavioral immunity.
\nThe workshop asserted that protecting society from the scourge of drugs requires an effective partnership between the family, educational, health, and security institutions. It also noted that the College of Science for Women will continue to work on instilling preventative awareness among female students through a series of purposeful activities.
\nIn concluding the event, a set of recommendations was emphasized, including:
\n– Sustaining awareness programs within the university campus.
\n– Enhancing coordination with relevant specialized authorities.
\n– Activating media and educational campaigns that contribute to building a safe society capable of confronting this dangerous phenomenon.<\/p>\n
